Norris Green, Liverpool Case Study
The basic simulation tool developed by the studio (urban flow simulation phase 1) was put to the test within the context of the almost entirely vacant area of Norris green Liverpool. While the phenomenon of the shrinking city of Liverpool is ignored by regeneration and new land for development schemes, we felt these empty areas should be addressed. The Idea is to treat the abandoned houses as part of the landscape and reuse its ruins for proposing a new plan.
The simulation results suggested new urban layout. Using simple flow simulation in a design analysis feedback loop we identified strategic locations, orientations and layouts for the various public spaces of the proposed scheme. The potential of such digital simulations as analytic and generative architectural tool, here in an urban scale is the studio’s ongoing interest.
