Sustainable roof extension, Maida Vale
The house on Lydford Road is a three-story Victorian terrace house. The clients wish to extend their flat up to the roof level and to include a third bedroom and a shower room.
While the street façade conforms to the original building and includes wooden sash windows; dormer style roofs and slate roofing, to the back of the property solar tiles are incorporated onto the new south facing slope of the roof to the back of the property.
The panels will be generating enough electricity to provide all the house needs. It is anticipated that any extra power generated would be sold back to the National Grid. The proposed roof addition is south facing which is the ideal direction for maximising the energy generation of the panels.
This roof extension almost seamlessly transforms this two-bed Victorian flat from an energy consumer to a self sufficient, even energy generating unit.
